THE HILDANA LODGE-TEITA

The Hildana Lodge lies at the foot of the Taita Hills; enveloped in a private 5,000-acre sanctuary. This small, exclusive property promises total privacy, and unfettered access to amazing wildlife and birding opportunities. Sleeping a total of 20 people, The Hildana has eight luxury rooms, made up of a honeymoon suite, five luxury doubles, and two perfect family units.

The lodge is adjacent to a beautiful, family-owned sisal estate. As such, we offer homely accommodation welcoming you with open arms and smiles from every member of the team. The sanctuary forms a part of the farm and speaks to the family’s passion and commitment to the conservation of the wildlife and the surrounding environment. 
​The lodge is found in the heart of the Tsavo elephant corridor which links Lake Jipe in Tsavo West with the Galana River in Tsavo East. The Hildana waterholes are seasonal homes to large numbers of elephant herds and other wildlife species, and form the highlights of any visit to The Hildana Lodge; sharing your evening views with elephants quenching their thirst on their journey through the sanctuary. 

ROOMS

When you aren’t cooling off in our stunning swimming pool, take a seat and lounge in our shared areas. Our interior design is heavily Mediterranean influenced with a very coastal Swahili slant. 

Each of our luxury rooms is an en suite, flooded with natural light and allowing you to feel completely at home and at ease in your private room. Each room is a stand-alone cottage, found down a meandering paved path, taking you out to your own little slice of the Kenyan wilderness. 

Forest Walks

Get lost in the bush with the birds that define this region.

The Taita Hills forest reserves are an easy drive away and the cool shade within these ancient habitats are a stark and often welcome contrast to the Tsavo heat. This region is a popular site for any birders out there as it is home to unique, endemic, and protected species.  

Farm Tour

Supporting thousands of families, the working estate is the second-largest sisal producer in the world. Spend a day on the farm with a guided tour and learn about how this incredible eco-friendly plant is processed, used, and how it helps our local communities.
Anyone interested in agriculture will be fascinated by the arable, fish farm, and hydroponic projects run off the wastewater from the factory.

Game Drives

The sanctuary forms part of a vital wildlife corridor for the region. Whilst at The Hildana you will be met with amazing herds of spectacular elephants. Resident cheetah and lion put in regular appearances, and the endangered African wild dog are a treat for the special few.

Why not spend a full day exploring Tsavo? For those wanting to venture further afield, Tsavo National Park is only a forty-five-minute drive away.
​Tsavo West is home to some of the most extraordinary scenery; from the awe-inspiring Shetani Lava Flow and Caves, to the oasis that is Mzima Springs. 
Tsavo East is bordered by the Galana River and home to the Kanderi Swamps, both vital water sources in the dry season and as a result home to large numbers of wildlife herds, and the ever-present predators.
