We’ll meet the new day with a game drive to look for lion, leopard, cheetah, Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk, Somali Ostrich, Grevy's zebra, Grant's Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe Generuk, Greater Kudu, Lesser Kudu, Stripped/Spotted Hyena and whoever else might show up in the dawning light. Following the path of the Ewaso Nyiro River, we’ll be on the lookout for elephant, buffalo, and some of the more entertaining wildlife like dik-dik, warthog and the olive baboon. Samburu is also known as one of the two regions where conservationist Joy Adams raised Elsa the Lioness, later made famous in the book and movie, Born Free. The Samburu people, closely related to the Maasai, an indigenous, pastoral group, who have inhabited this region for eons. Dinner and overnight at Samburu Game Lodge. Start your Safari from Nairobi Our Driver-guide will pick you from your hotel at 7:00 am or the airport, depart for the semi-arid Samburu Game Reserve. En-route stop briefly at the Equator Crossing point. Arrive Samburu in time for lunch. Relax after lunch and then take an afternoon game drive at 3.30 pm to 6.30 pm. You’ll also have the chance to spot the Beisa Oryx, Reticulated Giraffe, Somali Ostrich, long-necked red Gerenuk and Grevy’s Zebra – the famous ‘Special Five’.
